Course Introduction
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is an undergraduate professional healthcare program designed to prepare students for the assessment, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical impairments and movement disorders. The course focuses on restoring functional ability, reducing pain, and improving the quality of life of individuals affected by injury, illness, or disability. The program combines scientific knowledge, clinical training, and therapeutic techniques to develop competent physiotherapy professionals capable of serving in diverse healthcare environments.
Course Duration (4 Years + 1 Year Internship)
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy program is a full-time academic course with a duration of four academic years followed by one year of compulsory clinical internship. During the academic years, students undergo classroom learning, laboratory training, and clinical exposure. The internship year provides hands-on experience in various clinical departments, enabling students to apply their knowledge in real-time healthcare settings under professional supervision.

Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is designed as per the regulations of The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and covers basic medical sciences, physiotherapy sciences, and clinical subjects. The course includes anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, exercise therapy, electrotherapy, orthopaedics, neurology, cardiopulmonary sciences, rehabilitation, and community-based physiotherapy. The teaching methodology includes classroom lectures, practical demonstrations, clinical postings, seminars, case discussions, and internal assessments to ensure comprehensive learning.
Internship Training
After successful completion of the academic program, students undergo a one-year compulsory rotating internship in various clinical departments such as Orthopaedics, Neurology, Cardiorespiratory Sciences, Paediatrics, General Medicine, Rehabilitation, and related specialties. The internship provides extensive clinical exposure, enabling students to develop practical skills, patient management abilities, and professional confidence required for independent physiotherapy practice.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Botany & Zoology.
- A minimum aggregate percentage as prescribed by the university is required for admission.
- Candidates must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission.
- Candidates should have appeared for the NEET examination as per prevailing regulations.
- Candidates from recognized boards or equivalent qualifications are eligible subject to university norms.
Examination Pattern
The BPT program follows the examination and evaluation system prescribed by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. The course follows a yearly examination pattern with internal assessments and university examinations. Students are evaluated through theory examinations, practical examinations, clinical assessments, and internal evaluation. A minimum of 50% marks is required for passing in accordance with university regulations.
